I would love to start quilting now.

Well Here is a photo from last night (I refused to post on Mother’s Day :)) It is a photo of my most recent endeavors with the baby quilt for my friend. Happy belated Mother’s Day!!

I finished the basting last night but I didn’t get the same batting as my last quilt. This batting I bought is nice and thin like I wanted but it doesn’t baste at all. I attempted to baste with the spray baste and that didn’t stick for long either. So I decided to pin it, which is a difficult thing since I have no safety pins, only my straight pins.

While I was going through the SMS giveaways I came across a giveaway for these. These lovelies are called Pinmoors and they look like a fantastic alternative to using darn safety pins.

They were only around $16.00 with shipping and handling when I chose the mystery color option! They should get here in around 3 days so I can finish quilting the baby quilt without getting stabbed and poked ten million times. Plus I’m hoping it will help me keep the fabric from going crazy when I’m trying to stitch straight, because I won’t be afraid to really handle to quilt.

I have been blog searching today for new things to look at and potential new items to post to this blog. I myself am getting tired of the same thing over and over and over again. 🙂 This is what I found:

A photo a day posting with Fat Mum Slim. As you can see today is Sunrise/Sunset. Since I didn’t find this until after sunrise, I attempted to get a picture of my sunset (It’s Overcast).

Look at the beautiful fence my hubby is making for us! Anyways, time for some t.v.

I’m seeing Jungle Animals.

I have been sewing like crazy today! I got those 3 FQs I have been waiting on today. What a Mother’s Day gift huh 🙂 I cut out the remaining tumbler’s needed, totaling 156 of those suckers, and laid them out on the floor. It was near impossible seeing as it was a 12×13 Sudoku puzzle. I’m not very good at those things to begin with so when it all came down to the last part of the layout I just went with what looks good! I don’t think the recipient of the quilt will mind so much since he will be a newborn adorable little baby, but I’ve always been a pretty bad perfectionist.

I’m surprised my husband still asks for my help on projects because I always correct something… He agrees with my adjustments nine out of ten times though.

Anyways, back on the subject of the baby quilt! I worked away all day on sewing the rows and now I’ve sewed about half of the quilt top. It should be ready for basting tomorrow! I’m really excited, I’ve also noticed that my seams are lining up a LOT better than they did with my Cal King quilt. I was going to post a picture of that finished quilt top but I have it saved to my external hard drive so that’s not happening. I also haven’t gotten it quilted yet, and I am not comfortable with quilting it myself. Maybe when I can afford it or if I get better at quilting. It’s scary. I’d rather it get quilted by a long-arm quilter. I’m going to find a snack now, and wish me luck on finishing that quilt top tomorrow. My friend only has ten weeks to go!

Thread Run Dry.

Well, I was sewing together my strips into big chunks of fabric and I ran out of the thread I was using! Doesn’t do me much good to work on a project and not have the supplies I need before I really tackle it. I guess I wasn’t planning on working on this quilt yet but I’ve hit a stopping point in my baby tumbler quilt because I’m still waiting on the minky backing and three more FQs to come in from Fabricworm.com.

I did however get the fabric and thread I needed for the crib sheets that I’m making for one of my friends! Her baby is going to be one happy baby!

On a non sewing note. The family went out to the lake today and fed some ducks. Haleigh got so upset when she couldn’t catch the ducks. We saw all kinds of wildlife including Wood ducks, Mallard ducks, Geese, Turtles, and Pelicans!

We also rented one of the paddle boats to actually go out on the lake. That was so much fun! I haven’t ever been on one of those things before. Haleigh was having a blast even though she was just added weight on the boat :).Image

Spending time as a family before DH leaves on deployment. 🙂 I hope to get some more done tomorrow!

Strip Sets done!

Today has been a busy day for our family with my husband finally on leave 🙂 I managed to get all of the strip sets cut and ready for sewing tomorrow though. It was definitely entertaining as my daughter kept handing me different fabrics and going on and on about a “fabric show”! I’ll post pictures tomorrow when I do some template cutting.

Sew Mama Sew giveaway’s!

If you didn’t know already it is time for the Sew, Mama, Sew! giveaway!

I think it’s crazy how many people are giving stuff away. I’ve been slowly sifting my way through all the offers for two days now and I’m still in the International entries. I haven’t checked in for awhile but I think I’m ready to take on this blog. I will see how it goes. Today I added my about.me which linked my FB account but I can’t figure out how to do the links to my other social media like the other blogs do. 🙂 I’m working on two projects as of right now.

Tumbler Baby Quilt Cutouts

These lovely fabrics are the start of my Tumbler pieces for the Baby Quilt I’m working on for one of my friends. I’m still waiting on some FQ’s and some Minky backing for the quilt and I can start sewing it together. I was only given the pointers that she wants Jungle of some sort and the colors she wanted were green and beige. I got the tutorial for this quilt from the Moda Bake Shop.

I am also working on this beauty but in St. Louis Cardinals colors for my husband per his request!

Feathers Quilt by Anna Maria Horner

I don’t have a picture but I’m busy as a bee cutting long strips in different patterns for the feathers! I hope to have this one done pretty quickly so that I can send it to him while he is deployed.

See ya tomorrow, I’m off to go enter more giveaways!

My new adventure!

I have never started my own blog before so here I go! I am here to share all my fun quilting and crafting adventures as well as all the interesting family stories that occur! I recently got into quilting and I am currently working on my quilt that will be signed by my family members at my wedding (like a guest book) I haven’t been sewing very long and everyday I do sew I learn something new! The wedding quilt is HUGE! I have no idea why I chose to take on a cal-king sized quilt as my first quilt but all I know is I’m a glutton for punishment I guess!
